Recently I used an App called Xiao Shui Mian(小睡眠) with good usability and user experience to track and analyze my sleep.

The App gives clear idea of its capabilities with good home page design and navigation design and offers very straightforward features and functions with exploit entry on user interface, which makes the App learned easily and quickly. I just need to set an alarm and place my phone near the bed. Then I fall asleep while keeping the App on to track my sleep using sound analysis. It wakes me up gradually while I’m in a light sleep the next day and shows me a generated analysis report. Once I have tracked my sleep successfully for the first time, I can easily remember how to use the App.

The App offers natural white noise and other relaxing sleep sounds and story library which help ease my mind for bed. The App also generates sleep analysis with detailed sleep statistics and daily sleep graphs which makes me understand and learn about my bedtime patterns. These functions make the App be utility.

The App is effective and efficient enough in achieving my goals to understand my sleeping patterns and get a good night’s sleep. Now I’m using the App every day, I haven’t found any problems like fails to track sleep or can’t generate analysis report. When I wake up, I feel refreshed and rested.

The App is safe to use. It asks for permissions like recording the first time I use it. It consumes less power and I don’t need to charge my phone all the night if it has sufficient battery.

I think the App is very helpful and useful. I’m satisfied with its clean and simple user interface and powerful functions. I’ll keep using it.

Another App I used recently but with bad usability and undesirable user experience is McDonald’s.

I though it was an App for online McDonald’s food ordering, but when I tried out the App, I found the App is mainly designed for redeeming deals. The App doesn’t provide functions like online ordering and self-collection. I think the App has no utility to me.

I often get this kind of error when I try out the App which makes it less effective to use.

After sign in the App, try out McDelivery feature on home page.

The McDelivery system is built within the App. If I click McDelivery button on homepage, it opens an in app web browser links to a McDelivery web page. I have to create new account from the web to order food, which causes the issue of double login accounts for two systems in one App. It’s very confusing and inconvenient. If I want to use other features on homepage, I have to close the in-app web browser which result in my previous session is logged out. When I open McDelivery web page and login again, the cart is empty, and my previous selected items are not retained, which makes me feel frustrating. It’s not efficient for me to order food using this App.
